Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
